TRACY'S INTERNSHIP JOURNEY
OJT, or on-the-job training, refers to the activity in which students receive training or preparation for a particular job or career. It is moreover a prerequisite for a course needed for graduation. To prepare for and expose themselves to a selected career, the students are placed in various private or public departments or branches of government.
My journey of on-the-job training started when Professor Rene Arduo introduced as to NTC. The place where we are going to do our OJT. There is a funny moment when we first came to NTC because we don't know where NTC is We just used google Maps and the fun with that was we just rode a minibus for 1 hour and they tour us to the whole city. We don't know that we passed by the NTC HAHAHA. When we arrived at NTC I feel nervous because I don't have any idea what we are going to do and we don't know the employees in NTC. The first person introduced to us is Secretary Maam Acella Bilbao she then introduced and toured us to every offices of NTC.
My first day of on the job training in NTC was so exciting and somewhat I was so nervous ,since they were professionals and I was just a student trainee at first, it was difficult for me to interact with them. The first thing they wanted us to do was to get acquainted with all the employees who were listed in the organizational chart. A little while later, Maam Acela Bilbao, the third administrative assistant, showed us the various offices within the business and introduced the staff members from each department. After an hour, We had orientation from Ms. Ma Theresa Salazar, the CAO, Chief FAD, HR, Budget, and Disbursing Officer, regarding the policies and procedures, appropriate attire, and the confidentiality of the business inside the company. Then she assigned each one of us to the different departments. To make working with them easier, I just schooled myself to behave professionally as they do.
I feel so nervous as I entered the first day in the office, then suddenly Ms. Lailyn A. Casumpang the Data Encoder instructed us on how to do our first-ever task in the Records Room. At first, it was not easy for us to do the task because we were not able to determine the original copies of the Original Radio Station Licenses of Smart Telecom. But as time goes by we finished the task accurately. Through this, I have experienced a new environment, new acquaintances who are professionals, and every task that is given to me. The most unforgettable and hardest thing I’ve experienced is when Ma’am Acela asked us to segregate those past documents (Licensed Data Compilation) by province then after it, I’ll segregate it by month, do you know what’s the hardest part of it? When I determine if the licenses are extended or not depends on the official receipt in every province here in the Philippines, imagined there are a lot of provinces and municipalities in the Philippines, do you think you can do it alone? It was my first time but Thanks to GOD he gave me enough strength to finish my task. Also many thanks to my partner (Erica) in that department who helped me accomplish the task given to us. Through this experience I learned a lot, I learn to be more patient in every task that is given to me even though it is hard and I don’t like it. I also experienced how to operate a Xerox copier at first I don’t know how to use it but then one of the employees taught me how to operate it, I have fun with it after all. As time passed, I discovered that working with them was enjoyable because everyone there was so kind to me and treated each other like family,
I also experienced the re-routing of documents from one department to another. Every time they call me and ordered things to do, I’ll just recall their faces then listed and memorize their names so that next time I already know them, fun to think but I learned a lot.
I learned a lot of things on my first day of OJT, some of them I adopt and apply to myself and some of them helps develop my skills and enhance my knowledge. I was so thankful that I have my OJT in this office. I learn to be more patient in every task given to me, to be nice and humble with every person I interact and most of all to LOVE MY WORK.
As time goes by on our on-the-job training. I know how to do some task without being asked. Everyday we just do the task given to us. The employees don't hesitate to give us some confidential work, and they don't hesitate to teach us how they do their work. I learn how to use a scanner and scan all licenses every month. I learned how to encode smart and globe communication licenses depending on their category. I also learned how to encode the order of payment for every client before paying it to the cashier's office. I also learned how to encode trip tickets for every employee in Excel. Learned how to encode licenses of ship, amateur, radio operator certificates, government and commercial licenses, MPRR, and other licenses. Maam Lailyn also taught us in scanning and blocking lost mobile phones.
As days, weeks, and months, passed, and now we are in half of our OJT we build great camaraderie and friendship between other OJT's and employees of the NTC. We get to know each other and spend time with them during our vacant hours.
I am so grateful to all the employees of NTC, as they have a good heart and the patience to teach us everything. They don't hesitate to answer all our queries and curiosities about the work given to us. I experienced how the actual job was done, how we all got together, and how the Regional Director scolded every employee who didn't do their job accordingly. Having the experiences we had at NTC makes us realize that in our future jobs, we should always give our best shot at the things they ask us to do. I also realize that attitude towards work and being respectful is very important. How you deal with and socialize with your coworkers is important. We should always be committed to the work we had. I will bring these experiences I had throughout my journey in life and to my future works someday.
JUST LOVE YOUR WORK and surely YOU WILL ENJOY it..... believe YOU WILL ENJOY IT!!-MAAM TESS
